Transcription Styles Explained

At Accu-Scribe, we tailor our transcription style to suit your needs. Whether you're conducting research interviews, legal proceedings, or business meetings, we offer different levels of transcription detail to match your project requirements.

Intelligent or clean Verbatim

The key is in the name - clean, clear, and easy to read

This style removes filler words, false starts, and verbal clutter, while preserving the meaning and tone of what was said.

Best for:

  • Research interviews

  • Business meetings

  • Content for publication

Example:

PARTICIPANT: So, I went back to the doctor yesterday and, [sighs], he wasn’t very helpful, but, tha-... [upset], I guess, that’s just the way they are sometimes. Is it okay if I just grab a glass of water quickly? Sorry, I’ll be right back when I’ve drank it.

INTERVIEWER: Yeah, of course.

True or Full Verbatim

Every word, exactly as spoken

This includes all repetitions, filler words (um, ah, like), false starts, and background sounds if requested. It provides a word-for-word record, often used for healthcare, legal or disciplinary contexts

Best for:

  • Court or legal transcripts

  • Disciplinary hearings

  • Psychological assessments or linguistic research

Example:

PARTICIPANT: So, I, uh, went back to the-the, doctor yesterday and, like, [sighs], he wasn’t very, um, helpful, but, like, uh, tha-... [upset], I guess, that’s, you know, kinda just the way they, uh, uh, are sometimes. Um, is it okay if I... if I just, um... just grab a glass of water quickly? Sorry, I’ll, uh, be right back when I’ve, like, drank it.”

INTERVIEWER: Yeah, of course.

Smart Intelligent Verbatim

Professional polish with preserved nuance

This is a balanced, refined style that keeps important hesitations, tone, and emphases when they add meaning, but removes unnecessary filler and clutter. It’s a more sensitive edit than intelligent verbatim.

Best for:

  • Patient interviews

  • Sensitive or emotional content

  • Client-facing summaries

Example:

PARTICIPANT: I went back to the doctor yesterday and he was not very helpful, but that is the way they are sometimes. Is it okay if I grab a glass of water quickly? Sorry, I will be right back once I have drunk [sic] it.

INTERVIEWER: Yes, of course.
